No, hiding out was not the best thing for Johnny and Pony boy because Darry and soda don't know where they are, and are worrying for them. Gives a hint to the Socs on who killed Bob, for they are the only ones running away.

Johnny admires Dally they way he takes responsibility for their actions and stands up for their friends as well as his profane vulgarity.

The boys cut their hair to disguise themselves which the length of the hair mostly mattered to Ponyboy because he took pride in his hair. Doesn't really matter what the lengths of hair is for me it just has to look desirable.

Johnny knows how to take care Ponyboy and including himself.
