Character
1. Elie - Elie is a twelve year old Jewiish Boy from the town of Sighet. Start with a strong faith in God, but through out the book he becomes to become skeptical being in three concentration camps. However, he was later liberated by the American troops, regarding losing his father.
2. Elie’s father - Elie's father, pronounced Shlomo Wiesel, has three daughters and a son (Elie). From the town of Sighet, he is the respective elder in the town, which the villagers ask for advice to him. He owns a stores with his wife as well as him being fifty years old. Later, according to the text, he passes away by becoming sick and being killed in the concentration camp.
3. Franek - Franek was greedy and wanted Elie's golden crown. Franek was the foreman of Elie's depot. Instead of getting the crown, he beats up Elie's dad.
4. Gestapo - the Gestapo are local police officers who enforce Hitler's rules.
5. Idek - Idek is the foreman at the depot and quite the bully towards Elie, and tending to beat up Elie's father. Also importantly, has a polish girl as his girlfriend.
6. Juliek - Juliek is an instrument player who plays the violin at the concentration camp with Elie. When playing Beethoven, Juliek has passed away because playing German composer's music is prohibited.
7. Kapos - The prisoner that assist the Germans in keeping control for the other inmates. Supervisors gave order to other prisoners.
8. Madame Schachter Madame Schacter, a Jewish lady, who is insane and corrupted from being separated from her husband and her two sons. She was the first captive to see the chimney smoke, and the crematorium which no one had believed anymore.
9. Moshe the Beadle - Moshe the beadle, the laughing stock of Sighet who mentors Elie in Judaism. Teaches Elie the Talma and the Kalabah.
10. Meir Katz - Meir Katz is Elie's father's friend. Saves Elie when being suffocated somewhere in the night.
11. Dr. Mengele - Dr Mengele is the concentration camp doctor who has treated the prisoners like animals and does not take his patient seriously and does not show mercy, otherwise known as "The Angel of Death."
12. Rabbi Elahou (and sons) - Rabbi Elahou is a Jewish inmate who's son has abadoned him. Elie hopes that he will never turn into Elahou's son.
13. SS Officers - SS officer stands for "Shootz Staffal." They are German Nazis at the concentration camp.
14. Stein - Stein is a relative of Elie's family helping them to survive and provides them food. Elie has given him false hope to keep living.
15. The dentist - The dentist is Jewish and from Czechoslovakia. HE permits Elie to delay his appointment and retrieve his golden tooth.
16. The French Girl - The french girl works in the depot with Elie advising him to calm his rage holding it in. She gave secretive cover that she was Jewish, speak fluent German, and Aryan.
17. Zalman - One of Elie's inmates who passed away being trampled by a stampede on their way to Gleiwitz.
18. Tzipora - Tzipora is Elie's sister burned to death with her mother in the crematorium.
19. Tibi and Yossi - Tibi and Yossi are brothers who lost their parents in Birkenau. Acts as twins who are close because they only have each other. Tibi and Yossi were born from Czechoslovakia.
20. Akiba the Drumer - Akiba the drummer is another prisoner at the camp who does a lot of chants, singing, to keep every in a calm state of manner. One of the most optimistic, and encourage Elie to be faithful.
